The Christian Science Board of Directors Friday announced the appointment of William Moody as editor of the religious periodicals of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, headquartered in Boston.

Mr. Moody had been serving as clerk of The Mother Church, the church officer who oversees membership activities and services. He will be assisted temporarily by Nathan Talbot, who will serve as senior executive editor. Mr. Talbot has for the last 10 years served as the church's manager of Committees on Publication, the Christian Science Church's chief spokesman and government-affairs officer.

The appointments came following the resignations last week of the religious periodicals' editor, Allison Phinney Jr., and three associate editors, Michael Rissler, Ann Kenrick, and Elaine Natale.

Replacing Moody as clerk will be Juan Carlos Lavigne of Buenos Aires, a longtime Christian Science lecturer. Al Carnesciali of Newport Beach, Calif., was named manager of Committees on Publication. Mr. Carnseciali will step down as a trustee of the Christian Science Publishing Society.
