NOMINATIONS FOR PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced last week the nominations for television's 44th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

CBS received a total of 70 nominations. "Northern Exposure" garnered more than any program on television this season - 16, including Outstanding Drama Series. "Murphy Brown" received nine nominations; "Brooklyn Bridge" received eight.

NBC dominated the prime-time Emmy Awards nominations for the 11th straight year with 100 nominations, paced by its slate of quality dramatic series. Leading the pack, was the network's critically acclaimed first-year series "I'll Fly Away," which earned 14 nominations.

Most of ABC's 63 nominations went to "The 64th Annual Academy Awards," the series of pilot films for "Homefront" and "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles," and the series "China Beach."

The 44th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Aug. 30.
