BASEBALL KEEPS GIANTS IN SAN FRANCISCO

San Francisco residents cheered while St. Petersburg reacted with acute disappointment to Major League Baseball's decision Nov. 10 preventing the San Francisco Giants from moving to Florida.
"I'm very elated for what this means to San Francisco," Mayor Frank Jordan told a cheering news conference after the decision of the National League owners was announced in Scottsdale, Ariz. "I've always believed this day would come, but it was not an easy task."
St. Petersburg officials, however, said they planned a $100 million lawsuit against baseball for breach of contract and conspiracy. They also threatened to challenge baseball's antitrust exemption.
"I am outraged by what has just happened," Florida Sen. Bob Graham (D) said. "I think this is the strongest case in recent history as to how the antitrust exemption is being abused by Major League Baseball."
