The Ultimate Driving Challenge (CBS, 9-10 p.m.): Craig T. Nelson, Scott Bakula, Barbara Mandrell - high school driving courses were never like this. The test offered here leans heavily on celebrity appearances, but it also calls computer graphics and viewer participation into play as the production puts you in the driver's seat, asking you to make crucial, split-second decisions on the road. The idea, of course, is to equip viewer-drivers with expert advice on dealing with all kinds of road challenges, from snow-covered roads to wet pavements, where hydroplaning is a problem. SATURDAY

Farm Aid VI (TNN cable network, 4 p.m.-midnight, E.T.): Willie Nelson has been putting together these fund-raising concerts - where some of the best folk-country music can be heard - for years. The marathon of music, carried live, is held for the benefit of farmers and offers an impressive lineup this year, not only Nelson himself, but names like Paul Simon, Ringo Starr (OK, so the last two are not actually country singers), Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt, and Dwight Yoakum. Aired from Cyclone Stadium in Ames , Iowa, the concert is part of a series of specials marking the Nashville Network's 10th anniversary. Much of the top talent appears during the concert's prime-time section. SUNDAY

Call of the Wild (CBS, 8-10 p.m.): Still another film based on the enduring 1903 Jack London book about a man and dog who join the Yukon gold rush at the turn of the century. At least three other film versions have been made, including a TV movie in 1976 and a 1935 Clark Gable vehicle that sticks in the mind. This production stars Rick Shroeder as the prospector who goes North and befriends the dog Buck. Shroeder - who at 22 is about the right age and says the book was the first one he ever read through as a kid - brings an edge of youthful wonder and zest to the part. Unlike some previous productions, many of the location shots were done right in the Klondike where London envisioned them.
