You, Reader

Any night you can awake and line up with the north star. Any night disguised as a person walking you can disappear. At the edge of town darkness comes forward and opens its arms. That star near the horizon burns its invitation, "Come on." So many lakes and lost places wait that you need no plan - there are miles of moonlight treasuring up waves, and reaches of earth mysterious as Aladdin's cave. The land rolls out its own magnificence, and you inherit whatever your eyes can prove by their glance that they're worthy of. You listen for music and it comes alive, even in ordinary sound. The tone of your voice comes back from the world enriched by all that it passes over. And this language of ours holds it all. Now, go back and begin again.
