Symphony

The artist Wyeth

Said all of life was displayed

in a square-inch of grass.

He must have seen the diamond drop

Wedged on the arch of a blade,

The curved wands of grass bending

in the wind,

The wormhole mounds breaking through

the soil,

The mossy mat beneath the fresh new stalks,

The glistening edges, the darkness beneath.

A communion of renewal,

A symphony in green.
