WORTH NOTING ON TV

History Sunday (The History Channel, 9-10 p.m.): This week's edition is called ``The Seeds of War,'' and the seeds in this case bear a haunting similarity to today's trouble in Bosnia: a struggle over honor, territory, and ethnic identity. But the year is 1914 and the events in and around Sarajevo led to World War I, which ultimately claimed some 8 million lives.

The program is an offering on a new channel - part of the A&E Television network - that debuted Jan. 1. Hosted by Roger Mudd, it looks at familiar historical facts, such as the assassination of Austria's Archduke Franz Ferdinand, but it also offers formerly unseen clips and papers from archives of the former communist world. Royal rivalries, Austria's push for power and glory, and other forces are dissected as the program considers the scene 80 years ago.

The program ends with a look at Sarajevo today and points to the fact that some of the same troubles are still violently present and must be resolved before a dependable peace can be achieved.

* MONDAY

Rocking the Boat - Women Race for the America's Cup

(Lifetime, 10-11 p.m.): The America3 Women's Team knocked the sailing world on its ear last fall when it finished second out of six teams at the world championships in San Diego, Calif. - a warmup for the America's Cup.

That means the team will be the first all-female crew to compete for the honor of racing for the Holy Grail of sailing, the America's Cup. The trials begin Jan. 12 and continue through May.

This documentary looks behind the scenes at how members of the 26-woman team live, train, and manage the demands of family life at the same time. The program tells the story of the crew's varied members, who will be taking on what the show's co-producer calls ``one of the biggest and richest boys' clubs in the world.''

If it keeps this up, Lifetime may have to stop calling itself ``Television for Women.''

Hosting the special is actress and model Christie Brinkley.
