An occasional update of music releases

POP/ROCK. Daniel Johnston - Fun. (Atlantic); K. McCarty - Dead Dog's Eyeball (Bar None): ``That rock roll, it saved my soul,'' sings Daniel Johnston on his major-label debut album. An underground music hero and a passionate devotee of the Beatles, Johnston's music is similar to John Lennon's in its intensity, its emotional nakedness, and its combination of melody and musical experimentation. The 18 tracks here are often raw and unpolished (Johnston was recorded in a garage and then studio tracks were added). If you want to hear his music performed by a real singer, check out K. McCarty's tribute album.
