It's the fourth gig on the series for Nancy Griffith, an Austin native whose appeal reaches outside her home town - way outside. She has packed Carnegie Hall and made a hit in many other venues with her songs. She won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album for her 1993 release ``Other Voices, Other Rooms,'' and on this show she offers numbers from her latest release, ``Flyer,'' as well as other songs.

Iris DeMent is making her first appearance on ``Austin City Limits.'' It's an ideal format for a delivery - both powerful and evocative - that has drawn comparisons with performers like Maybelle Carter and Loretta Lynn.

52nd Annual Golden Globe Awards (TBS, 10 p.m. to conclusion): They're not quite the Oscars or the Emmys, but these awards for achievement on TV shows and in movies do carry considerable prestige.

This year's event, carried live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California, is hosted by John Larroquette (a four-time Emmy winner himself ) of NBC's ``The John Larroquette Show'' and the feature film ``Richie Rich.'' The co-host is Janine Turner, known best for her role as Maggie O'Connell in the CBS series ``Northern Exposure.''

Top movie nominations are not terribly surprising: ``Forrest Gump,'' ``Legends of the Fall,'' ``Pulp Fiction,'' and ``Quiz Show'' for Best Motion Picture Drama.

Best Television Series Drama nominees are ``Chicago Hope,'' ``ER,'' ``NYPD Blue,'' ``Picket Fences,'' and ``The X-Files.''

The nominations for Best Television Series Comedy include ``Frasier,'' ``Grace Under Fire,'' ``Home Improvement,'' `'Mad About You,'' and ``Seinfeld.''
