* WOLF - (R, Columbia TriStar Home Video). A wolf bite turns a timid New York book editor into a cunning man with a keen sense of smell and enough vigor to fend off a co-worker who's just stolen his job and his wife. The only problem is that he now also goes on mysterious, often violent, nightly outings that leave him in fear for the safety of the beautiful woman he's just met. Brilliant in some spots, mediocre in others, this film loses ground when its supernatural undertones become less subtle and the cliched fangs and fur take over. Jack Nicholson is convincing as the tormented editor; Michelle Pfeiffer is less so as his newfound love. (June 17, 1994)
