An occasional update of music releases

CLASSICAL. Steve Reich ``Tehillim''/Three Movements (Elektra. Nonesuch): The text of ``Tehillim'' is taken from four Psalms, sung in Biblical Hebrew, and set to rhythmic tune-fragments that make this 1981 piece one of Reich's most buoyant and accessible works. Of special interest are Part 3, a slow movement with haunting chromatic shifts, and the last section, an outburst of vocal and instrumental joy. Although the original recording by Steve Reich and Musicians is a classic, the piece is energetically played here by the Schonberg Ensemble under Reinbert de Leeuw, with help from Percussion Group The Hague. Rounding out the disc is a 1986 orchestral work, performed with a vigorous pulse by Michael Tilson Thomas and the London Symphony.
