Worth Noting on TV

WEDNESDAY

Summer Olympics (NBC, 10 a.m.-12 noon, 7:30 p.m.-12 midnight): Women divers vie for glory in the springboard competition, with Chinese diving phenom Fu Mingxia the one to beat. Also, professional cyclists gear up for their Olympic debut in the men's road race. And freestyle wrestlers take the mat for the first time in Olympic history. But track and field holds center stage, with such US greats as Dan O'Brien, Gail Devers, and Johnny Gray competing in the men's decathlon, the women's 100-meter hurdles, and the men's 800-meter run, respectively.

Shore Things (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): Producer Rick Sebak hits the beach in this breezy documentary on US summer hot spots. Highlights: Lucy the elephant - a pachyderm-shaped building in Margate, N.J. - and a San Diego beach that's just for dogs. Still, virtual vacationing is no substitute for the real thing, and the show ultimately comes up short on substance.

Bewitched (Nickelodeon, 8-11 p.m.): It's a magical marathon with TV's favorite witch. Nickelodeon offers an evening at home with the Stephens and a chance to answer the all-important question: Would the real Darrin Stephens please step forward? Dick Sargent or Dick York - you decide.

THURSDAY

Summer Olympics (NBC, 10 a.m.-12 noon, 7:30 p.m.-12 midnight): The first-ever gold medal for women's soccer will be awarded tonight, and the group event for rhythmic gymnastics will grace the Games for the first time as a medal sport. Plus, it's the final day of the decathlon and the end of Dan O'Brien's quest for Olympic glory. Also, Michael Johnson laces up his gold sneakers for the men's 200 meters. And the men are flying high in the platform-diving competition.
