Worth Noting on TV

SATURDAY

Midnight Run (Disney, 8:40-10:40 p.m.): Robert De Niro and funny-man Charles Grodin star in this 1988 action-comedy about a bounty hunter and the crooked accountant he is trying to bring in. The movie is well-acted and humorous, but some violence and language earned it an R rating.

SUNDAY

Boston Common (NBC, 8:30-9 p.m.): The sea of reruns parts momentarily for new episodes of this comedy on its new night. After an unexpected kiss in the last episode, Boyd - the hayseed played by comedian Anthony Clark - and his natty love-interest (Traylor Howard) now try to figure out how to proceed.

The Big Easy (USA, 8-9 p.m.): This is not the entertaining movie of a decade ago, but rather the pilot of a new series based on it. Though the program tries hard to be like the original, it comes up short. While the film successfully balanced the sleuthing and steamy romance of a New Orleans cop and an uptight Northern attorney, the series focuses more on the steam and is often crude.

MONDAY

The Bus Stops Here: an MTV News Choose or Lose Road Report (MTV, 7:30-8 p.m.): Correspondent Alison Stewart talks with young Americans about issues that matter to them in this election year: freedom of speech and religion, welfare, racism, homophobia, and more.

Republican National Convention (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, 10-11 p.m.): The theme of this year's four-day GOP summit is "Restoring the American Dream." Scheduled to speak on Day 1 are Colin Powell, former Presidents Bush and Ford, and Nancy Reagan.

On Tuesday (same time period), Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, among others, is expected to take the floor in San Diego.

Coverage can also be found around the dial on CNN, C-SPAN, FOX, MSNBC, MTV, and Comedy Central. PBS and NBC will offer joint coverage, including commentary by Jim Lehrer, on PBS stations 8-10 p.m. each night.
