In the Name of Peace: For One Night, Music Unites Bosnia

The Irish rock band U2 performed Tuesday at Kosevo Stadium outside Sarajevo,

site of the 1984 Winter Olympics. Bono, the lead singer who had pledged

during a visit weeks after the war ended in 1995 to give a concert here, addressed the

crowd of more than 40,000 in Serbo-Croat: 'Sing in Sarajevo. It's a present from you to us.'

As many as 1,000 fans braved the trip from the Bosnian Serb republic into the

Muslim-Croat Federation, where the concert was held.
