A Kid's-Eye View Of the Work World

Across the United States, many girls skip a day of school and instead go to work with mom or dad on Take Your Daughter to Work Day. The day, celebrated the fourth Thursday of every April, aims to help adolescent girls gain a better sense of their career opportunities, thus bolstering confidence and self-esteem.

The observance, started in 1993, was founded by the Ms. Foundation for Women. Since then, the day has prompted discussions nationwide about how best to encourage the nation's daughters. Some schools believe the day is better spent in class. And in some workplaces, both boys and girls are invited to take part.
