River walk, with my daughter

'... there is a weather of things that happen too faint for headlines....'

- William Stafford

Water blinks along shore

where winged insects

touch; slight

circles tremble then fade

like the trilled silence

after your laughter;

that pause

at the symphony's end -

the baton raised still -

holding us

to music

and to moment;

or like the quiet

after words

that make much of

small remarkable things.
