Beatin' the heat

Fireworks weren't the only thing that wowed Fourth of July revelers this year - exploding temperatures and stifling humidity broke records across the United States. The East has been especially hard hit, with triple-digit temperatures and high humidity making the air feel like a typical 115-degree Southwest summer day. Brow wipers who didn't stay inside went in search of cool relief, such as this youngster leaping into the Montpelier, Vt., swimming pool.
