Big Money for book

Adam Hochschild, author of "King Leopold's Ghost" (Houghton Mifflin), won the $50,000 Lionel Gelber Prize, the largest juried book award in the world. The prize is given each year to the author of the year's best non-fiction book. Hochschild's prize seeks to widen the readership for important works pertaining to global issues and to encourage discussion on foreign affairs. The book details the brutality by the king of the Belgians against the people and resources of the Congo a century ago. The jury chose his book from 124 submissions and five short-listed titles.
