BEST POINTS: The Gates Millennium Scholars Program is a 20-year plan that will enable 20,000 young Americans to attend undergraduate and graduate institutions of their choice. The program will begin this fall and provide financial assistance to 1,000 new students per year, with an annual investment of $50 million. Click on "Nomination Material" to receive an application or nominate a student.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Individuals are eligible for nomination if they are African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific American, or Hispanic. Applicants must also have a grade-point average of at least 3.3, and have significant financial need. The scholarship is unrestricted in terms of major area of study for undergraduate students; however, graduate students must be studying mathematics, science, engineering, library sciences, or education.
