Booker Prize nominations

The shortlist for this year's Booker Prize has placed three unknown writers on the world's shelf, even as publishers scramble to keep up. Before the nominations were announced, Trezza Azzopardi, Michael Collins, and Brian O'Doherty had sold less than 600 copies of their books. The winner of the $30,000 prize will be announced Nov. 7 in London.

•Margaret Atwood, "The Blind Assassin" (Doubleday). Reviewed Aug. 31.

•Trezza Azzopardi, "The Hiding Place" (Atlantic Monthly Press). Available in US late November.

•Michael Collins, "The Keepers of Truth" (Phoenix House). Not yet available in US.

•Kazuo Ishiguro, "When We Were Orphans" (Alfred A. Knopf). Reviewed Oct. 5.

•Matthew Kneale, "English Passengers" (Doubleday).

•Brian O'Doherty, "The Deposition of Father McGreevy" (Turtle Point).
