Booker Prize nominations

The shortlist for this year's Booker Prize has placed three unknown writers on the world's shelf, even as publishers scramble to keep up. Before the nominations were announced, Trezza Azzopardi, Michael Collins, and Brian O'Doherty had sold less than 600 copies of their books. The winner of the $30,000 prize will be announced Nov. 7 in London.

•Margaret Atwood, "The Blind Assassin" (Doubleday). Reviewed Aug. 31.
