National Geographic Explorer: Into the Forbidden Zone (CNBC, 8-9 p.m.): Author Sebastian Junger ("The Perfect Storm") travels to the battlefields of Afghanistan to visit the guerrilla leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, who led the victory against Soviet troops in the 1980s and is now at war with the Taliban regime. In a recent interview, Mr. Junger said that Massoud offers hope of a democratic government. "People in [Afghanistan] have a skewed view of the Islamic world," he says. "The people in general have great dignity and sweetness.... The Taliban are extremists.... If the West behaved more responsibly - pressuring Pakistan to stop supplying arms to the Taliban" then a more just society might be established there.

But with a million dollars at stake, a merger doesn't necessarily mean unification. The final 10 contestants will fight to keep each of their flames burning.
