The Monitor has learned that the essay titled "An Indian daughter defends her choice" (April 3, page 23) was not a strictly factual rendition of events, though it was inspired by real situations in the author's own life. In particular, contrary to what the essay stated, the vice chancellor of Anna University in Madras, India, is Dr. E. Balagurusamy.

All essays submitted to The Home Forum are required to be fact-based works that qualify as "creative nonfiction." The situations and events portrayed must have actually occurred, and characters must be real people.
