"It's the best thing that's ever happened to me," a glowing West Las Vegas (N.M.) High School homecoming princess Vanessa Lucero said last Saturday. Accepting her tiara? Well, that was only part of it. The other part - and every bit as important - was scoring a one-yard touchdown, her first of the season, for the Dons in their 67-0 rout of rival Pojo-aque High earlier in the afternoon. It seems that despite the fact she stands just five feet tall and weighs only 103 pounds, she's a running back for the varsity. But wait, isn't football supposed to be a guy thing? Not according to Vanessa. "Only until a girl joins," she said.
