These 13 models pass the test

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has ratcheted up its rating system for new models, requiring that vehicles have electronic stability controls for better handling in emergencies. Thirteen vehicles were named Top Safety Pick winners recently for including this feature. They also graded well in high-speed front- and rear-impact tests, and in having the proper seat/head restraints. Four cars, seven sport utility vehicles, and two minivans earned the group's top award. The winners, by category:
