Jeffrey Shaffer

Jeffrey Shaffer has been writing essays and news commentary for more than 25 years, including a twice monthly column on the oped page of The Christian Science Monitor from 1998 until 2008. 

A new collection of his writing –  "Humor Without Borders" – is now available on Kindle.

His work has also appeared in The Wall Street Journal, the New Yorker, BARK, Huffington Post, and the Oregonian.  

His career in the electronic media includes stints as a TV news writer, talk show host, and radio commentator.  

He now writes a monthly column about life in a bookstore called "The Shelf Talker".  Shaffer lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife, children's author Susan Blackaby. Their daughter Rudy recently graduated from Oregon State University and is planning a career focused on international aid programs.  During Rudy's elementary and middle school years, her dad served on the local school committee, an advisory panel that served as a link between parents, staff, and the school community.
