4. James Frey

James Frey's name became notorious in 2006 when "A Million Little Pieces," which Frey had previously stated was a memoir of his drug and alcohol addiction and had become a bestseller, was discovered by the Smoking Gun to be partially fictional. The controversy led to a memorable episode of Oprah Winfrey's show in which the talk show host confronted Frey about the charges being made against his memoir. Winfrey had previously picked the book as a selection for her popular book club.
