The world's 10 best bookstores

Writing yesterday in the Independent, Derbhile Dromey proposed a list of the world's 10 best (English language) bookstores. If you're a traveler you may know many of them, but at least one or two are likely to be a surprise.

The descriptions are all enticing and each store has its unique features. At the curio-packed Octagon Books in New Zealand a cuckoo chimes the hour. At the London Review Bookshop you can sample a slice of fig tart from the in-house bakery. When traveling in Australia you can pick up an expensive model ships or compass at Melbourne Boat Books in Sydney and while in New York you can choose among 18 miles of books at the Strand .
