Caught on camera, a Bank of America executive offers to help GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry (shown here speaking at a lunch in Columbia, S.C., Aug. 19, 2011). But the bank is deeply unpopular with investors. Will its help help?

This may be the video that launches a thousand conspiracy theories.

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry was at a meeting called "Politics and Eggs For Breakfast" in New Bedford, New Hampshire.

C-Span aired his remarks. Afterwards, there's that usual mumbling of crowds you hear at the end of a lot of C-Span broadcasts.

But then something remarkable happens. A tall, distinguished looking man approaches Perry and says, "Bank of America: we will help you out."

The clip was discovered by the website Zero Hedge, which also identified the man who speaks to Perry as Bank of America’s [BAC 6.97 -0.04 (-0.57%) ]director of public policy, James Mahoney.

The Wall Street Journal's MarketBeat blog got a response from Bank of America spokesman Lawrence Di Rita.

“Bank of America does not endorse Presidential candidates. The reference was about following up on the substance of his speech about job creation and economic growth. Discussing policy issues that affect our company and our customers is something we do with policymakers of both parties routinely at the local, state, and Federal levels," she said.

Nothing to see here, folks. Move along. Thank you.

Of course, seeing how unpopular Bank of America is with investors lately, Perry might wonder if he really wants the bank's help.
