7 years in prison over $2? Only in New York.

A man was sentenced to 7 years in prison for jumping a turnstile and skipping out on the $2.25 fare — well, that and carrying a loaded weapon.

Turnstile jumping can come with a steep sentence if you're packing heat when you do it. Seven years in prison, plus another 3-1/2 on parole, to be precise.

Ruben Sanabria was arrested at the 14th Street PATH station last March 30 after jumping over a subway turnstile. When they stopped him for not paying the $2.25 fare, police found a loaded .40-caliber handgun and extra bullets on him.

Mr. Sanabria pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon.

The New York Post (http://bit.ly/VcIabH ) says Sanabria also was sentenced to 3-1/2 years parole.
