The Roku, which streams Internet video to TVs, is displayed in March 2013. In addition to snapping up deals on home furniture and fitness equipment, readers can get a discount on the Roku this week.

It may be Monday, but we've dragged ourselves out of the early morning drudgery to mine a range of impressive discounts, helping you make it through the day with at least one dapper deal. We've spotted a massive $446 off a Whitehaus Dynastyhau sink, an all-time low on a BaoFeng 2-Way radio, and more in today's list of five Editors' Choice deals that we found overnight and early this morning.

1. Top Gadgets Deal

BaoFeng Dual Band Ham 2-Way Radio

Lowest By: $9

Do You Need It?: This multifunctional VHF/UHF radio transceiver is a serious piece of equipment, suitable for use in emergencies. It features 128 channels and can operate on a range of frequencies, including amateur radio frequencies (although, an FCC license may need to be obtained to use these). It's dropped $2 since May to an all-time price low and is a worthy bargain for those "just in case" moments.

2. Top Home Deal

Whitehaus Dynastyhaus Drop-In Fireclay Sink
Store: Quality Bath
Price: $99 with free shipping
Lowest By: $446

Do You Need It?: Now, we typically promise to bring you deals on everything but the kitchen sink, but at such an incredible price low this Whitehaus Dynastyhaus model makes the exception. It weighs 90 lbs. and features two basins, giving you enough room to stack the dishes until you're good and ready to get round to doing them.

3. Top Fitness Deal

Schwinn 125 Upright Exercise Bike
Store: Sport Woot
Price: $179.99 plus $5 s&h
Lowest By: $114
Expires: Today

Do You Need It?: Save on a pricey gym membership and leave yourself with even fewer excuses to get fit with this Schwinn exercise bike. It ties our July mention and is the best deal we've seen that can justify second helpings at dinner. It features grip heart rate monitoring, 10 workout programs, 16 resistance levels, an LCD display, and MP3 player with in-console speakers. Also available as a price low is the Schwinn 225 Recumbent Stationary Exercise Bike for $249.99 plus $5 for shipping ($249 off list).

4. Top Coupon Deal

FedEx Printable Coupon
Store: FedEx
Discount: $10 off FedEx Express shipment of $20 or more
Lowest By: $10
Expires: August 31

Do You Need It?: Often, the price of shipping can trump the cost of a gift you wish to send to a loved one. But this useful coupon from FedEx will help you look all the more generous when you have an extra $10 to spend on the contents. It's tied with last week's mention as the best FedEx Express shipping discount we've seen. To redeem this offer, simply print the coupon and bring it to your local FedEx Office. Some exclusions may apply.

5. Top Electronics Deal

Refurbished Roku 2 XD 1080p Wireless Media Player
Store: 1SaleADay
Price: $44.99 with free shipping
Lowest by: $9
Expiry: Today

Do You Need It?: A great alternative to its more costly competitors, the Roku 2 XD Media Player streams 1080p HD content from Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, Pandora, Flickr, and other media apps. We dare say it provides too much entertainment for all the family, leaving it difficult to pull yourself away from the screen and venture outdoors. It's $20 under our June mention of a new unit and is the lowest total price we've seen for this model, without rebate hassles. It features 802.11n wireless, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 3.0, and HDMI output.

Total Savings: At least $588

What is the Monitor difference? Tackling the tough headlines – with humanity. Listening to sources – with respect. Seeing the story that others are missing by reporting what so often gets overlooked: the values that connect us. That’s Monitor reporting – news that changes how you see the world.

Dear Reader,

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”

If you’re looking for bran muffin journalism, you can subscribe to the Monitor for $15. You’ll get the Monitor Weekly magazine, the Monitor Daily email, and unlimited access to CSMonitor.com.
