Every week, Monitor staffers comb the job listings in search of interesting places to work.

The nine most intriguing jobs we found this week are in Fort Myer, Va.; Philadelphia; Helena, Mont.; Houma, La.; Georgetown, Del.; Huntsville, Ala.; Ayr, Neb.; Rogers, Ark.; and Ida, Mich.
1. 3rd trombone, US Army Blues band
Employer: US Army
Wages/Salary: $51,000 to $58,000
Details: Audition is scheduled July 7 for spot in the premier jazz ensemble that is part of the US Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” The 18-piece ensemble is one of the few remaining professional big bands playing today. (Click here or more information.)

2. Churrasqueiro chef

Location: Philadelphia (pop. 1,447,395; median family income $44,134) is the fourth largest US urban area and home to the reigning champs of Major League Baseball.

3. Helicopter manager

Location: Helena, Mont. (pop. 25,780; median family income $63,473) is called a city that gold built, after the rush commenced in 1864. The city’s Mansion District is a reminder of when Helena had more millionaires per capita “than any other city on earth.”

4. Cargo claims investigator

Location: Houma, La. (pop. 32,393; median family income $43,050), named after the Houmas Indian tribe, sits squarely in Cajun country about 30 miles southwest of New Orleans.

5. Inmate classification officer
Employer: Delaware Dept. of Correction
Wages/salary: $37,386 to $46,732
Details: Ensures inmates are interviewed, tested, and examined by individual members of the multidisciplinary classification team, such as counselors, teachers, correctional officers, and medical personnel for the purpose of initial classification and reclassification. Location: Georgetown, Del. (pop. 4,911; median family income $31,875) is a short drive from Delaware’s popular seashore. The Circle at the heart of town, with its large fountain, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

6. Warhead engineer

Location: Huntsville, Ala. (pop. 158,21; median family income $52,202) sits on the Tennessee River in northern Alabama. Known as the “Rocket City,” it is home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the US Army Aviation and Missile Command at the Redstone Arsenal.

7. Agricultural sprayer operator
Employer: Fairfield Non Stock Coop Fertilizer
Wages/salary: $9 to $10 an hour

8. Scoper

Location: Rogers, Ark. (pop. 54,959; median family income $45,876) is located in the far northwest corner of the state, near Bentonville, where Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, has its headquarters.

9. Aerial tower tech

Wages/salary: $13 to $18 per hour
Details: Maintain, repair, and construct a broad spectrum of aerial applications, including antennas and other communication towers. Must be able to read blueprints and climb an average of 200 feet. (Click here for more information.)
Location: Ida, Mich. (pop. 4,949; median family income $60,990) sits about 10 miles north of Toledo, Ohio. The Ida Township board recently designated May as Motorcycle Awareness Month.
