Every week, Monitor staffers comb the job listings in search of interesting places to work.

The most intriguing jobs we found this week are in Honolulu; Nashville, Tenn.; Center, Texas; Gresham, Ore.; Round Rock, Texas; Reno, Nev.; Lake Mills, Iowa; Paris, Ill.; and Laramie, Wyo.

1. Submarine planner/weapons systems
Employer: Perot Systems government services
Wages/salary: Not listed
Details: Provide engineering, technical, and program management support associated with the maintenance and operation of the torpedo tubes and weapons systems onboard SSN 688 Class Submarines. (For more information click here.)
Location: Honolulu (pop. 359,694; median family income $70,686), where President Barack Obama attended high school, is the state capital whose name in native Hawaiian means “sheltered bay” or “place of shelter.”

2. Elephant keeper

3. Car hopper/skater

Location: Center, Texas, (pop. 5,678; median family income $31,699) is practically in Louisiana, at the far eastern edge of the Lone Star State.

4. Urban forestry planner
Employer: City of Gresham, Ore.
Wages/salary: $55,356 to $70,656

Location: Gresham, Ore. (pop. 101,537; median family income $54,345) is the state’s fourth-largest city, or, if you prefer, Portland’s largest suburb, with a well-maintained historic district.

5. Event technology specialist
Employer: PSAV Presentation Services
Wages/salary: Not listed
Details: Set up and operate large- and small-scale audiovisual systems for a leading supplier of audiovisual and event technology to hotels, associations, and meeting planners. (For more information click here.)
Location: Reno, Nev. (pop. 180,480; median family income, $49,582) calls itself “The Biggest Little City in the World.” Efforts at diversifying its casino-centered economy appear to be paying off.

6. Wetland monitoring crew leader

Location: Lake Mills, Iowa (pop. 2,140; median family income $50,345), which sits just below the state’s northern border with Minnesota, was home to Pulitzer Prize-winning author Wallace Stenger in his early years.

7. Rail logistics specialist
Employer: Cargill

Location: Paris, Ill. (pop. 9,077; median family income $37,872) is thought to have been named “Paris” because someone carved the word in an oak tree in what today is the center of town.

8. Tooth aging coordinator
Employer: State of Wyoming Game & Fish Dept.
