Lawyer to discuss strategy with ex-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick
Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced to at least 18 months probation violation.
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.
Kilpatrick was sentenced to at least 18 months Tuesday for violating his probation in a 2008 criminal case.
One of his lawyers, Daniel Hajji, said Wednesday that he would see Kilpatrick as soon as he can make arrangements with the warden in Jackson, where the ex-mayor is being temporarily housed.
Lawyers had been expected to announce that they were filing an appeal. Hajji declined to comment on any strategy to suspend or overturn the prison sentence.
Co-counsel Michael Alan Schwartz said he would be "shocked" if Kilpatrick doesn't pursue an appeal, but he won't have an active role in the process because he's starting a new job on June 1.
