Apple announced it would overhaul its MacBook Air line. Among the MacBook Air devices now available are 13.3-inch MacBook Air with a whopping 256 GB capacity and an 11.6-inch MacBook Air with a 64GB capacity and a $999 price-tag. The new MacBook Air computers eschew traditional hard drives for sold-state drives; Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the computer is the result of a theoretical “hook-up” between a MacBook and an Apple iPad.
Already, bloggers and analysts are frothing at a chance to try out the MacBook Air – and lauding Apple for dropping the price-point on the svelte computer.
“I've never been a big fan of laptop computers, for the simple fact that they've always been too heavy to carry around on a daily basis, taking them everywhere I go, Dan Frommer of Business Insider writes today. “But the new MacBook Air seems to finally be lightweight enough to carry around all the time, and cheap enough to justify buying as a secondary computer. It seems to finally be the laptop I've been waiting for.”
