Hoarfrost covers a pine tree on Tuesday in Winona, Minn. Hoarfrost is a deposit of interlocking ice crystals on small-diameter objects, according to the National Weather Service. It is similar to dew, except the temperature of the object that accumulates the frost must be below freezing.
