YELLOW SHIRT PROTESTS – 2008, Thailand – Clad in yellow shirts, the anti-Thaksin People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) called for the removal of then-Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat (who was Thaksin’s brother-in-law). In late 2008, the yellow-shirted protesters occupied the regional hub Suvarnabhumi Airport, stranding tens of thousands tourists for weeks. In December 2008, the constitutional court disqualified Mr. Somchai for electoral fraud, opening the way for current Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to take office. Seen here, a pro-government protester attends a rally to show support for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 19.
