In what is being hailed as the "largest celebration of Jewish learning in the last 2,000 years," nearly 100,000 people are expected to gather in New Jersey's MetLife stadium in East Rutherford Wednesday night to mark the completion of a seven and a half year exercise in reading the entire Talmud.
East Rutherford, N.J.
The $4 million event Wednesday night will draw nearly 100,000 people to mark the completion of the reading of the Talmud. The event has been two years in the making.
Rabbi Yosef Golding, who is coordinating logistics, says organizers have 50,000 ponchos and 35,000 towels on hand should it rain.
Golding says security will include 660 New Jersey state troopers, as well as federal agencies.
Organizers call it the "largest celebration of Jewish learning in the last 2,000 years."
Many attending have read one page of the Talmud, which pertains to Jewish law, each day for seven and a half years.
