HTC Droid Incredible gets price, pre-order availability

(Read article summary)

Droid fan? Brace yourself. On Monday, Verizon began accepting pre-orders for the HTC Droid Incredible, an Android phone one reviewer has already called the best Android device available in the United States.

According to the Verizon site, the HTC Droid Incredible, which bears a striking resemblance to the Google Nexus One, will be priced at a pretty standard 200 bucks with a two-year contract; orders placed before the end of the business day on April 28 will get their Incredible handset by the next day.

The major selling point for the Droid Incredible is the hardware: HTC has packed a whole lot of goodies under the phone's hood, including a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, an 8-megapixel camera, an Android 2.1 OS, and 8GB of internal storage.

"Let's just put this out there: the Droid Incredible is the best Android device that you can purchase in America right now," Engadget's Joshua Topolsky wrote yesterday. "It's better than the Droid, better than the Nexus One, and certainly beats the pants off of any previous generation handsets like the Eris, myTouch, or Cliq. It's not just a very, very good Android phone (though it is); it's also an excellent smartphone no matter how you cut it."

At the tech blog Gizmodo, Matt Buchanan offers an only slightly less enthusiastic review. "The calculus is relatively simple," Buchanan writes. "If you're on Verizon and want a smartphone (and aren't stuck with BlackBerrys), the Incredible is pretty much the one you should buy."

Last week, Verizon accidentally leaked details and a release date for the HTC-manufactured Droid Incredible. The company caught its error, and removed the advertisement, but not before an army of bloggers snapped screenshots from the site.
