Jimmy Fallon will incorporate Twitter into 2010 Emmy ceremony
Well, there are worse ways to get famous.
On Wednesday, Jimmy Fallon encouraged Twitter users to submit short introductions for 20 of the presenters at the 62nd annual Emmy Awards, which are set to air on Sunday, Aug. 29 on NBC. Fallon, who is hosting the Emmy ceremony, said he would read the best tweets – along with the handle of the user – as the presenters take the stage.
So, if you've always been dying to say something about Jon Hamm – or John Krasinski of The Office, or Ricky Gervais, or even LL Cool J – now is your chance. "Everyone can join in on the fun and get creative," Fallon told a reporter for Reuters. "We've gotten some good ones already." It's unclear, of course, how much of a grand introduction anyone can gin up in 140 characters or less – but maybe that's the point.
Short and sweet, folks. To get in on the fun, steer your way over the NBC Emmy subsite. There, you can plug in your Twitter user name and a proposed tweet, and voilà – you're halfway to a career in television writing.
In other Twitter-related news, Lady Gaga recently surpassed fellow pop star Britney Spears to become the most-followed person on the social media site. She now tops the top echelon of Twitter users with more than 5 million followers. Among them: actor Ashton Kutcher, talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres and Organizing for America, a Democratic political organization founded by Barack Obama.
