Angry Birds pointers? Ask Jon Hamm.

Angry Birds is a time-waster. And 'Mad Men' actor Jon Hamm thinks wasting time with furious birds and surly pigs is A-OK.

Angry Birds, a video game from Rovio.

Jon Hamm, the star of the television show "Mad Men," was on Craig Ferguson last night to promote two new projects – the bank heist flick "The Town," and "Howl," the Allen Ginsberg biopic starring James Franco. But Hamm and Ferguson devoted precious little time to discussing either movie. Instead, they mostly chatted about... a handheld video game called Angry Birds.

"I just downloaded Angry Birds," Ferguson confided. (The Angry Birds discussion begins at around the 5 minute-mark in the video below.)

"Get ready to waste some time, my friend," Hamm grinned.

Angry Birds, which was developed by the Finnish studio Rovio, is currently available for devices running the Apple iOS and Android operating systems. The game retails for a dollar on iTunes; it is currently the most downloaded paid app in dozens of countries, including the US, the UK, and Canada. The gameplay model is simple: Gamers use a slingshot to fling the aforementioned angry birds at a castle dominated by angry pigs.

But maybe we should let Hamm explain. "It makes perfect sense," Hamm deadpanned. "Some evil pigs have stolen some bird eggs. And of course, what way would you try to get the eggs back but by launching yourself at the castle the pigs have constructed?" Hamm and Ferguson proceeded to act out a scene from Angry Birds using plush toys. Then Ferguson asked Hamm whether he would ever consider owning a real pig.

Hamm shook his head. Pigs, he said, are "adorable when they're little. And they're 800 pounds and like a Volkswagen rolling through your house."
