The Edge of Winter

A poem.

The Edge Of Winter

Standing by the pond's edge
I watch the fading light
dissolve my reflection.

Smoldering umbers
of leaves blacken slowly
as the moon appears
through a slit in gray velvet.

Cold stiffens my fingers.
Now it is too dark to write.
Reluctantly I put my pen away
and think of winter.
