Charlie Brown and Linus appear in a scene from "A Charlie Brown Christmas." The animated special was created by late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in 1965. The program is included in holiday gift guides.

It's that time of year, when occasional shoppers are worried about braving the crowded malls to hunt for holiday gifts for family and friends.

At the Monitor we have attempted to address that concern with a variety of holiday gift guides (see list below). There are web links included to help you purchase most, if not all, of the items.

Two of our six gift guides include television shows, from classic holiday fare like "A Charlie Brown Christmas" to a Bill Moyers PBS special on the power of myths.

There are also DVD sets of family fare, classic movies such as "The African Queen," and programs from "The Golden Age of Television."

Other holiday gift guides include CD music collections from such greats as Bob Dylan, Dave Brubeck, and two of the Ken Burns PBS specials. Electronic gadgets new this year are also part of the Monitor's 2010 gift guides.
