To the relief of some, “Kate Plus 8," the TLC reality show starring Kate Gosselin and her brood of twins and sextuplets, has been canceled due to low ratings. Heads are now being scratched about how Ms. Gosselin can reinvent herself. A star turn on “The Bachelorette” perhaps?

Katie Irene "Kate" Gosselin (née Kreider) was a labor and delivery nurse in Pennsylvania before fame came calling. In 2005, Discovery Health featured Kate, her then-husband Jon, and their children in the program "Surviving Sextuplets and Twins." The success of this show and a follow-up special led to the development of the full-fledged "Jon & Kate Plus 8" show that ended up on TLC.

The original show’s popularity tapped into public fascination with multiple births, helped by the telegenic looks and outsized personalities of its featured couple and their children. But the attention apparently did little for their marriage. After the Gosselins divorced in 2009, its single mother TV spinoff did not capture people’s imaginations in quite the same way.

Ms. Gosselin is no stranger to setbacks, surviving a nasty divorce. She competed unsuccessfully on the reality show, “Dancing with the Stars,” to vocal criticism. But she was undaunted by the catty remarks, tweeting her response: "So people say I am a bad dancer... who cares what you have to say.....your [sic] worthless!!!!”

With that kind of moxie, she will probably make lemonade out of this latest reversal. Or maybe a movie.
