Iowa plane crash victim identified

The sole victim of a fatal Iowa plane crash has been identified by authorities.

A single engine Swearingen SX300 crashed near Milford, Iowa, at about about 3 p.m. Wednesday. The body has been identified as that of Texas businessman Geary D. Gearn from Hereford, Texas.

He was flying from Minneapolis to Amarillo, Texas, when his plane went down in a field 14 miles south of the Minnesota border in southern Dickinson County. Neighbors had heard a "low-flying plane" when they say the sound of the engine stopped.

Mr. Gearn was the owner of a cattle feed mill and was picking up his plane in Minneapolis after it had some repairs done.

The FAA completed its investigation on Thursday, and is turning the case over to The National Transportation Safety Board who will make a final determination on the nature of the accident.
