In the end, Palin’s candidate, Karen Handel, lost. She was edged out in a bitter runoff election by former US Rep. and establishment candidate Nathan Deal. But Palin was a major factor in the race, bringing Handel national media attention and boosting her to a favored status. The close race, which became vitriolic near the end, may have lingering effects on Georgia’s GOP politics.
