Sunday's TV news show lineups

With football season concluded it may feel like we've entered a dark void. Like we've happened upon Thunderdome. In the this period of darkness, however, we've got the Sunday morning news shows to fill the space until the most glorious season of all returns in six months.

This is not an easy day. Enter the void. Six months of darkness.

No more football. And no, the Pro Bowl doesn't count. You might as well watch bowling.

Gotta have Faith

Maybe if Faith Hill can re-record Joan Jett's song to introduce the Sunday morning news shows it would get us through these dark, dark times.

Regardless, looking at the morning lineups you won't be surprised to hear that the network shows are concentrating on the economic stimulus package and CEO pay caps.

Gotta have Claire

If we were stranded on a desert island and could only watch one show this morning, we're opting for NBC's Meet the Press. Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill is appearing. And given her high-octane speech last week where she blasted Wall Street executives for handing out huge bonuses despite receiving federal bailout money, she may just warrant some attention.

Remember the speech?

"We have a bunch of idiots on Wall Street that are kicking sand in the face of the American taxpayer," McCaskill said. "They don't get it. These people are idiots. You can't use taxpayer money to pay out $18 billion in bonuses."

Who can argue with that?

Rundown

Let's look at the lineups.

ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos: Obama's chief economics adviser Larry Summers, plus new GOP Chairman Michael Steele.

CBS's Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer: Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and Council of Economic Advisors Chairwoman Christina Romer.

CNN's State of the Union with John King: Sens. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.).

Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace: National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).

NBC's Meet the Press with David Gregory: Sens. John Ensign (R-Nev.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), and Reps. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and Barney Frank (D-Mass.).
