Brandon Marshall makes a splash in Dolphin home debut, but Jets win

Brandon Marshall enjoyed his best game as a Dolphin Sunday night, but Miami and Marshall came up short versus the New York Jets.

Much was made of Brandon Marshall and how the Broncos practically gave him away to the Dolphins for draft choices this past April. Despite a Pro Bowl-caliber season in 2009, a falling out with first-year head coach Josh McDaniels had Denver looking for potential landing spots. After three games in 2010, Miami seems happy to have him.

The Central Florida product made a splash in his home debut Sunday night against the Jets, with ten catches for 166 yards and a touchdown. But it wasn't enough, as the Jets outlasted the Dolphins, 31-23. Following a deflating season-opening loss to the Ravens, New York has now defeated two division rivals in consecutive games (including the New England Patriots 28-14).

As for Marshall and his Week 3 performance, it was part of the Dolphins' highest scoring output of the season so far. But the Miami offense is still evolving.

“We’re the type of offense where we’re going to take what the defense, our guys give us. The past two weeks they’ve been trying to take away the pass, and we ran the ball more. We just take advantage of whatever’s there. They wanted to play one-on-one outside, and the wide receivers…we pride ourselves on beating that. It was a battle out there, and we made plays but we didn’t make enough," Marshall told miamidolphins.com.

Next up for the Dolphins is another AFC East division showdown against the Patriots. A young New England secondary could be just what Marshall and the Dolphins need for that first home victory next Monday night.
