James J. Corbett

James J. Corbett, also known as 'Gentleman Jim,' held the title of heavyweight champion for almost five years. In 1892, he defeated John L. Sullivan in the first championship bout where boxing gloves were used. Corbett won 11 of 19 bouts, seven by knockout. He lost the title to Bob Fitzsimmons in 1897.
