Law-enforcement officials gained access into a polygamist temple on a west Texas compound in Eldorado Sunday. The authorities, however, still had not found a 16-year-old mother whose report of alleged abuse led to a raid and standoff at the group's secretive ranch, beginning late Thursday. A breakaway sect of the Mormon church operates the compound.

In a letter delivered over the weekend, Microsoft gave Yahoo until April 26 to accept a $41 billion buyout offer or risk a hostile takeover at a lower price. Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said Yahoo's online traffic had fallen since the buyout offer was made at the end of January.

After scrutinizing charges to government credit cards used by Veterans Affairs employees, the Associated Press said Sunday it had found bills at casino and luxury hotels, movie theaters, and high-end retailers totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Actor Charlton Heston, who died Saturday in Beverly Hills, Calif., was known for his heroic roles in some of the most acclaimed films of the mid-20th century, including as the chariot-racing Ben Hur in a movie of the same name. Greensburg, Kan., which was virtually leveled by a deadly tornado last May, is pursuing a master plan to rebuild in an environmentally sustainable way, the worldchanging.com website reports. Civic leaders are calling for farmers' markets and community gardens, and a citizens group is offering technical assistance and education in going "green."

The University of Kansas and the University of Memphis advanced into Monday night's NCAA men's college basketball championship game with impressive semifinal wins Saturday. Memphis, which improved its record to 38-1, defeated UCLA 78-63, halting the Bruins in their third straight failed attempt in the Final Four. Kansas (36-3) jumped out to a 40-12 lead over North Carolina, saw its lead shrink to five points, and finally won, 84-66.
