Gov. Sarah Palin (R) of Alaska would seek high national office again "if there is an open door for me," she told NBC "Today" Tuesday. Speaking of her unsuccessful vice presidential run, she said the US economic collapse "had a heckuva lot more to do with the campaign's collapse than me personally."

The average national price of self-service regular gasoline fell 18 cents to $2.22 a gallon in the week ended Nov. 10, the Energy Information Administration said Monday. The price is 89 cents lower than it was a year ago.

NASA declared an end to its data-gathering Phoenix mission to Mars Monday after not receiving any signals from the robot in over a week. During five months on the planet the solar-powered probe confirmed the presence of ice. It wasn't expected to continue much longer because of the approach of winter on the arctic plains, but a sun-blocking dust storm hastened its demise.

Shares in General Motors plunged to their lowest point in 60 years Monday, dipping to $3.02 before closing at $3.36. At the same time, GM said it would cut nearly 2,000 more jobs than the 3,600 announced late last week.
